GNACU - NEA FCU Merger News
The Greater Norwalk Area Credit Union (GNACU) merged with NEA Federal
Credit Union (NEA FCU), effective December 31, 2012. It is estimated
that the conversion process will take 6-8 months before operations
are placed under one comprehensive system under NEA FCU and CEO
Donald H. Briggs. Briggs stated, “NEA looks forward to serving the
Greater Norwalk community with the great products and excellent
service our existing members currently enjoy!”
The
merger took place under the supervision and support of the State of
Connecticut, Department of Banking and the National Credit Union
Administration. Both governmental regulators issued their permission
and approval to merge the credit unions.
GNACU
will continue to operate as the seventh NEA FCU branch… and the
second of NEA’s Connecticut branch operations… serving the GNACU
membership until the conversion is completed. Howard S. Elkin,
former CEO, will be the VP Operations for NEA reporting to CEO
Briggs. Upon conversion, the staff, consisting of Ann-Marie Bassett,
Lilly Blanding, Lilian Brown, Rosina Malagise and Rose Smalls, will
serve the former GNACU members as well as all NEA FCU members from
the Norwalk location.
Moving
forward, the Norwalk branch will be under the supervision of Wanda
Dewey, the AVP/ Branch Manager NEA New Haven. In Norwalk, Rose
Smalls will be the Branch Supervisor. Stacey Mack has recently
accepted a transfer to the New Haven branch.
We
welcome the membership and staff of GNACU into the NEA family and
look forward to an exciting future!
As the
conversion gets underway, communications will be issued to the
membership and staff in order to outline the steps and procedures
that will be taken. Any questions should be directed to Jim
Nottingham, AVP Marketing & Communications, at NEA’s Main Office by
e-mail at: jnottingham@neafcu.com.
